Meet Your AHRA Director Candidates: Part 2

Today we’re pleased to introduce you to Laurie Hitzel, and Mario Pistilli, two of the four candidates running for the two open Director positions on the AHRA Board. 

We’ll do a recap of all candidates next week, and then… get ready to vote, starting May 5th!

Laurie Hitzel currently serves as the Administrative Director, Ancillary Clinical Services at AdventHealth Dade City and AdventHealth Zephyrhills located in Pasco County, Florida.  Since 1999, Laurie has had the opportunity to learn and grow at multiple facilities at AdventHealth imaging services departments where she has held positions as director, manager, coordinator, clinical instructor, and staff technologist.  Prior to moving to FL in 1999, she served six years in the United States Air Force as a radiologic technologist at Andrews AFB, MD and Fairchild AFB, WA.  Laurie holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida, a master’s degree from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, and is a Certified Radiology Administrator.  

Laurie and her husband John have a beautiful three-year-old daughter Olivia, and two Chiweenie rescue dogs, Jaeger and Stella.  She loves spending time with family, traveling, and giving back to her community as an active member of the local Dade City Rotary Club.

Laurie wants to represent the AHRA family by being their voice.  She has a positive personality that helps encourage professional behavior, belonging, and acceptance.  Having experience in multiple leadership roles, knowledge of AHRA programs, and volunteerism in several aspects of the organization, she is committed to making the AHRA the best it can be.  An AHRA volunteer since 2008, she has written articles in LINK and the Convention Daily, was a speaker at 2020 Annual Meeting, and is serving a fourth year on the AHRA Annual Meeting Design Team, including 2021.

Year over year she has proven the ability to manage department finances within budgets, exceed strategic objective growth goals, and build amazing teams that provide exceptional care.  

Laurie is passionate about what she does every day and would be honored to represent our AHRA family as a member of the board of directors.

Mario Pistilli has been in the medical imaging profession for over 30 years – starting out as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist with a passion for lifelong learning. He has also spent many dedicated years as a football coach, mentoring countless young people through sport. Mario obtained a dual focused MBA in Healthcare leadership and business analytics and is currently a Doctoral candidate in Business Administration with a focus on finance and statistics.

Mario achieved fellowships with both AHRA and ACHE, as well as completing an Executive Leadership Fellowship at USC Keck School of Medicine. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on operations management and finance , as well as writing a monthly leadership column and frequently speaking on leadership topics nationally. Mario was elected by his peers to serve on the national board of AHRA, and is also active in ACHE and HFMA. Mario holds both the Certified Radiology Administrator (CRA) and Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) credentials. Currently serving as the Administrative Director for Imaging Services and Imaging Research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Mario also gives of his time to serve as a mentor to aspiring leaders, and is passionate that every individual receives the very best care.

Through his service with AHRA, Mario has served on the Editorial Review Board, Rapid Review Board, Membership Committee, and was elected by his fellow board members to serve as Finance Director for both the AHRA and the AHRA Education Foundation. In the role of Finance Director, Mario has worked with Dan Kelsey, AHRA CEO, to bring new financial reporting metrics and transparency, and to integrate financial planning with the strategic plan.
