Time and Change

Two words that are so fitting for closing out 2020.  Regardless of everything going crazy in our personal and professional lives, time and change are constant.  As we prepare to welcome 2021 and the wonders that it brings, we cannot neglect the lessons that 2020 should have taught us:

  • Masks help
  • Hand washing helps
  • Social distancing helps stop the spread of disease
  • There is no such thing as normal

Many of these things have been known by our medical community, but it took a pandemic to get others to believe.  We are social beings and this dramatic change has been difficult for most.  Moving forward, we must take these lessons and draw on best practices to enhance our new normal.  This fits well into the new AHRA strategic plan that will enhance opportunities for our members to participate in many new ways.  Over the past few months, the AHRA team and boards have been working diligently on the new strategic plan as well as the budget, goals, membership enhancement, calendar year membership, several major policies and Bylaw revisions along with all the normal operations and planning for Spring and Annual meetings.  Stay tuned, you will be seeing more on these soon!

AHRA is a family and our relationships are strong and lasting. The heart of our association is not a physical space, it is and will always be; our people.  Our AHRA team mates will continue to work productively from home, which enables them to remain safe and healthy, while also meeting personal obligations (and lightening the burden on our hospitals).  The positive impact on recruitment, retention and the financial outlook ultimately makes us stronger. Please know that our amazing team remains committed to the success of the AHRA and continues to enhance association operations as we all adapt to today’s reality.

Many of you know I am a fiercely loyal Ohio State Buckeye.  These words hold dual meaning for me as at the end of the first stanza lyrics are,

“Time and change will surely show, how firm thy friendship – O H I O!”

Those words stand true for our AHRA family also.  As a young director, I searched for the right association to meet my professional development needs.  I test drove them all.  When I landed in AHRA, I truly found a family that supported and guided me.  They were undeniably invested in my success.  As we prepare to end this year and begin 2021, please appreciate all that we have.  I hope your holidays are wonderful and you have time to relax and enjoy the amazing world around you.  I am looking forward to a bright and productive 2021!
