Servant Leadership and the RACC

The Annual Meeting is an opportunity to learn, network, and rejuvenate. This year’s Annual Meeting was nothing short of amazing! The sessions were informative, and the people I met were fantastic. I often talk about the energy of the CRA membership, and it was confirmed once again at the meeting in Washington, DC. Every CRA or aspiring CRA that stopped by our booth in the exhibit hall was excited about the potential of the CRA program. We had a record turnout at the CRA reception, and every person there wanted to know how they could help. These folks were genuinely passionate about elevating the credential without a personal agenda.

Immediately after the meeting, I began work as chair of the RACC Nominations Committee. Again, I was amazed at the quality of the team I worked with as well as the candidates we interviewed. Bette Drescher represented the RACC and Russell Cain was our non-RACC volunteer. They were both tremendous and dedicated a great deal of time and energy to this process. A consistent theme of servant leadership with the qualities of listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of people, and building community prevailed in both my teammates and the candidates. Every candidate verbalized these qualities as being either personal qualities or desirable qualities for RACC team members.

I learned something new from both of my teammates as well as each candidate that we interviewed. Although it was a very difficult decision, the team ultimately narrowed the field to four candidates who are now up for election. Personally, I am going to have a very hard time deciding who to vote for. All of our candidates are knowledgeable and eager to give back to the organization that has given them so much. I am humbled to be part of such an impressive team that continually embodies the skills valued by servant leaders. For those who are lucky enough to become part of the RACC, enjoy your time with some of the most amazing servant leaders you will ever meet. My time on the RACC is nearly over, but I am convinced that those who follow will elevate this credential to great heights.

Remember that our greatest successes are achieved by elevating others to succeed!

Servant Leadership is one of my favorite tenants of Leadership and you have provided an excellent article to inspire others to get involved and vote for RACC members while demonstrating we value those who do truly step up to serve! The AHRA is an association built on volunteerism. People willingly giving of their time and talents to make us each better, just like you and the dozens of others who step up, and help to make up such a wonderful association. Keep it up!!
