My Presidential “To-Do” List

Well, here we are at the beginning of another month! As usual, time flies when you are having fun, and this marks the sixth month of my presidency. It has flown by, and it saddens me that I only have six more months to go because I have a ton of things on my “to do” list. And yes, this means that you only have six months to make your plans to attend the Annual Meeting! You have until March 31 to enjoy a reduced registration fee, so if you’d like to save some money, you had better get planning. It is going to be an awesome Annual Meeting!

As you can see, Link is looking a little bit different this month. We are switching the format up a bit, and instead of being a monthly publication, you’ll now see several new Link articles each week. The content will still be the same great content you’re used to receiving, just in a more easily digestible format. If you’d like to receive a notification each time a Link article publishes, simply enter your e-mail address in the subscription box in the top right-hand corner of this page.

Lots of things are happening behind the scenes at AHRA! We are working to gauge member interest in some type of Six Sigma training at the Annual Meeting, one of the big things on my “to do” list. We are putting together a task force to work on developing this idea, and I will bring you more information as this moves forward. Our own coding queen Melody Mulaik is chairing our new Regulatory Affairs Committee. They are working very hard on developing relationships with the ACR, HFMA, and ACHE and figuring out how working together with them will help our membership with regulatory issues.

David Cowan continues his work on our productivity project, another item on my presidential “to do” list. David will be leading a panel discussion at the Spring Conference on various organizations’ key initiatives and their effect on productivity. Make plans to attend the conference in San Antonio, April 22-24 because Design Team Chair Mark Steffen is working up a Texas size sweat putting a great meeting together! We will also have a board meeting April 5th in Atlanta to continue progress on strategic planning and development.

Finally, here are my monthly listening suggestions. I was riding home from my daughter’s soccer tournament this past weekend when one of my favorite songs by Dire Straits came on the radio, Sultans of Swing. There are phenomenal guitar parts in that song; I cranked it up and sang along as we rolled down the highway! When I got home I broke out my old Dire Straits vinyl collection and listened through them, recapturing some lost songs. Mark Knopfler sure can make the fret board of the guitar sing – make sure you check out Down to the Waterline and Skateaway among others.

Crank it up, and I’ll see you at the Spring Conference in San Antonio – let’s rock down by the riverwalk!

(Also be sure to check out Member Appreciation, where every month we celebrate new members and highlight significant anniversaries.)
