Less Than 30 Days and Counting

July 2013AHRA’s 41st Annual Meeting and Exposition is less than a month away.  I’m sure many of you are looking forward to connecting with the friends you have made over the years. For many of us, it’s also an opportunity to meet new colleagues.  I’ve attended several annual meetings throughout the years, but recently decided it was time to get more involved. After serving on the AHRA Spring Conference Design Team, I can confidently say that it’s more fun when you volunteer! There are so many opportunities to be active in AHRA and it’s very rewarding.

If this is your first AHRA meeting, take a moment to capture everything going on around you. Make sure to attend the “Welcome Reception” Sunday evening and the other activities throughout the week. At each session and event, challenge yourself to meet at least one new individual – bring business cards to distribute, and keep in touch with these contacts throughout the year.

Earlier this year, I reviewed the AHRA website and was impressed by the lineup of speakers, especially our keynote speakers sponsored by Carestream and FujiFilm. I knew then that this was a meeting I did not want to miss. Since my organizational travel budget had been cut, I elected to make a personal investment in myself and registered early for the meeting.  In part, I registered early in hopes of having an opportunity to win one of the fabulous prizes.  I also took advantage of applying for one of the AHRA scholarships.  While I didn’t win the $500 or the “Suite” Deal, I’m thrilled to say that I am one of the lucky recipients of the Education Foundation Annual Meeting Scholarships. I would like to personally thank Hitachi Medical System, Inc., AGFA Healthcare, and Philips Healthcare for their corporate sponsorships that provide opportunities like this to imaging leaders.

While I look forward to a number of the presentations in the brochure, I’ve purchased Erik Wahl’s new book Unthink: Rediscover Your Creative Genius  after reading the book  review column by William Johnson, chair of this year’s AHRA Annual Meeting Design Team,  in the May/June 2013 issue of Radiology Management. I can’t wait to rediscover my untapped creative talents!

The 2013 Annual Meeting Design team has done a fabulous job in organizing this year’s meeting.  I wish to thank each of them for all their work in organizing this 40 year celebration.

If you’re not scheduled to be in Minneapolis July 28-31, I hope you’ll reconsider.
